Tim Szafran is an experienced high school and summer league coach. He is currently the Head Swim Coach at Katy HS. He has also been a head coach in NWAL and MSBSC, winning divisional championships in both leagues. He was the District 18-6A Boys Coach of the Year for 2018.
Tim is a graduate of Texas A&M University (2005) where he played and coached for the Texas A&M Water Polo Team (2001-2005). He is also a graduate of Strake Jesuit College Preparatory where he swam and played water polo (1997-2001).
He is dedicated to the improvement and success of all swimmers in his programs as well as enhancing the community in which he serves. The Tamarron Torpedoes are proud to have an accomplished Chief to the Boat at the helm!
I am very excited to be working with the Torpedoes again this summer! I have been both a club swimmer as well as a varsity swimmer at Jordan High School for the past four years. I have swam and volunteered at countless USA and summer league meets and believe that my experience will be especially helpful in getting our Torpedoes swimming at full speed!
Chris has been a member of the Torpedoes from the inception of the program. He has furthered his swimming career as a member of the Fulshear HS Varsity Swim Team and has vastly improved his skill set. He is a great example of what our Torpedoes can do when they work hard and put their full effort into it. He has been a great teammate and an asset to our younger age groups. He looks forward to passing on his knowledge and experience to our younger swimmers so that they can follow a great example.
Gianna has been a Torpedo swimmer for three years and is a varsity-level swimmer at Freeman High School. She has continued to improve not only as a swimmer but as a leader in the program. Her attention to detail, hard work, team first attitude as well as her patience, and kindness with younger swimmers have earned her a spot as our newest Junior Coach.
Interested in Coaching?
Each season we look for 2-3 assistant coaches. Practices run Monday-Friday (see practice schedule on website) with 4 regular season meets occurring Saturday's in June. Meet of Champs and the All-Star meet are at the end of June during the week.
Duties:
- Help to establish a Torpedo Team culture in which swimmers exhibit team spirit and sportsmanship, are excited to come to practices and meets.
- During practice, provides in-water support, for age groups through 8 years old and as necessary for older age groups.
- Help prepare swimmers who qualify for finals to be successful in the meet.
- Attend all meets, including MOC (Meet of Champs) and All-Stars.
- Help manage swim meets and MOC. Is available during each meet to monitor each swimmers’ progress.
- Assist in handling all last-minute changes to line up that happen at the meet.
- Attend pertinent team and league meetings (informational, registration, etc.) including mandatory coach’s meetings.
- If the assistant coach is under 18, at the beginning of the season, the coach will swim during meets in the 15-18 age group. A suit will be provided for the coach and will not be subject to registration fees.
Perks:
- If a coach commits to 2 years with the team, the Board of Directors will pay for necessary certifications. Reimbursement consideration must be submitted to the Board, and approved, prior to the certification course. For approved courses, ½ of the cost of the certification will be added to the coach’s final paycheck of the season. The second ½ will be added to the coach’s final paycheck the following season.
- Bi-weekly pay with the potential for bonus at the end of the season.
